The twin-island nation of Antigua and Barbuda is located in the middle of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean. It is an independent sovereign nation within the Commonwealth, with a multiparty parliamentary democracy and the British monarch as head of state. An appointed Governor General in Antigua represents the British sovereign. English is the official language and the law is based on the British legal system.

The predominant religion of Antigua and Barbuda is Christianity. Population size is approximately 87,774 with a geographical area of 442.6 km².

Antigua is a member of the United Nations, the Organization of American States (OAS), CARICOM, the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The official currency, the Eastern Caribbean dollar, enjoys a fixed exchange rate with the US dollar (EC$2.70 = US$1.00).

Tourism is the largest contributor to Gross Domestic Product followed by manufacturing, import export trade and agriculture, as well as real estate and finance.

The Antigua and Barbuda Investment Authority was created by the government to promote and attract domestic and foreign investment.

Two options are available for the Antigua and Barbuda citizenship-by-investment programme; either a cash donation to the National Development Fund (NDF) sent directly to the escrow account managed by the CIU or investment in real estate through one of the government approved real estate asset classes. This covers freehold property with title deed, hotel shares, fractional ownership or land. Investment starts at $250,000 for the NDF donation and $400,000 for the real estate option.

The Citizenship-by-Investment Programme (CIP) was established following parliamentary approval and is in Section 6 of the Citizenship-by-Investment Act, 2013. The CIP requires a person to make a stipulated economic contribution to the country. In exchange, and subject to stringent application procedures, including thorough background checks, applicants and their families are granted citizenship.
